J.B. Bickerstaff: Cavs Are 'Planning For The Future' With Andre Drummond

J.B. Bickerstaff said that while he has yet to directly talk to Andre Drummond about his contract situation, he plans on having Drummond on the team \"for the future.\"

Drummond has a $28.7 million player option for the 2020-21 season.

“I have not asked him, ‘Hey man, are you opting in or opting out?’ But the conversations we’ve had have been positive. Indirectly those conversations have been about the future, what next year is going to look like, how he wants to be part of the team and how we can use him effectively and all those things,\" Bickerstaff told Chris Fedor of cleveland.com (h/t Pro Basketball Talk).

Bickerstaff added that \"we’ve had no conversations about him not being here and we’ve been planning for the future with him.”

It was reported last week that Drummond and the Cavs are \"far apart\" regarding a contract extension, with the team realistic about Drummond\'s flaws within today\'s game.

A source added that the best case for the Cavs, should he opt in, would be to trade Drummond to a contender at next season\'s trade deadline.
